What We Do Differently
At SeEd NI we believe in cultivating and nurturing students, so that they can pass that experience on to their clients in the future.
Our background is unique. We have not started off life as teachers. We started off life as counsellors. The founders of SeEd NI have also founded one of NIs most successful independent mental health charities, with a reputation for delivering outstanding therapeutic work, group work and support services.
For almost 10 years we have been supporting trainees on their clinical placement, as they work for our counselling organisation, gathering their hours to become qualified. We have seen some great students coming from strong courses, but we have also seen many students not adequately prepared to take on clients, because their learning experience has not been good enough.
We have mentored and invested in those students, preparing them to take on clients and ensuring they are better able to work with clients. We firmly believe our students become some of the best in their field because of the environment they grow up in.
So how does this experience drive us to do things differently you ask?!
We have everything in one place - your training centre, your internal supervision and your clinical placement. Ensuring each student has a team of support throughout their journey to become a counsellor.
We pay for top quality external supervision on your behalf, with supervisors who will ensure you become the very best you can be.
We do not rush things. It is never a race to get all the courses finished. It is a journey of growth and self discovery, that will set you up for a life, and ensure you become a truly safe pair of hands.
We are driven by a need to ensure that our community has a steady stream of ethical, resilient, safe and effective counsellors, to help address the mental health challenges that exist in our community. We are not interested in firing lots of students through, ticking off boxes and moving on. We are highly motivated to serve you as students so we can better serve our community.
We think outside the box - we encourage everyone to be themselves, get creative, experience different types of therapy - art, play, drama, equine, sand, the list is endless. We love group work, and provide opportunities to get involved or earn income from paid helping roles that aren’t purely counselling.
We build volunteering with people into every step of your training journey. Allowing you to practice your skills, experience work in different community sectors and with different demographics of people, from across our community. And we take all the hard work out of it, by sorting your volunteer work out on your behalf.
